How to: Make free VoIP calls!

VoIP can be defined as voice over internet protocol. This simply allows one to make a voice call over the internet for free. Now if you have a WiFi enabled device, such as recent symbian devices (n95, n82, 5800…) or an Apple iPhone, making a VoIP call is easier than ever.

To begin, we need a client to handle these calls; in this case, we will be using Fring. Fring allows you to connect to your MSN, Gmail, Facebook, and other instant messaging services all at once. There are other clients such as, Palringo, which also do the same thing with more or less features; I personally enjoy using Fring. Assuming you already have one of these clients installed, I will proceed with instructions as to how to make a free VoIP call (I will demonstrate using Fring).

Step 1 – Login / Open your Fring client and proceed to the Services tab (3rd one down to the right). You will choose the “SIP” service in the list, where it will ask you to enter the details of your SIP provided. A SIP provider is like MSN providing you with an email address. For demonstration purposes we will use a free SIP service which is a trial version. Go to VoipBuster –> Download and register yourself an account with them; unless you already have a SIP account with someone else then you may use that.

Step 2 – Go back to the first tab, press option on the fring test call. It will provide you with three functions, we want the SIP call. It will prompt you to enter a number, remember to enter +1 or the correct area code of your country.

Step 3 - Enjoy your FREE call! Remember using your SIP client also enables you to make a free call within your computer which means it this doesn’t require a mobile device to work! Below are more screenshots:
